Common sense...not so common!

So yes... we finally got our meters and taps installed. I didn't notice in the original photo that it was right in front of our door where our pathway is going!

Not a single thought has gone into this really... Now to request the council to move them.

Finally got our taps installed :)

Our SS sent me a photo today as an update. I have to say I am extremely impressed with his support and communication during my overseas travel.

There's a thief in our midst!

So apparently there has been a lot of thefts in our estate. This is to be expected with a new estate that does not have many residents yet but it's still disappointing.

Lucky for us, we were the select few homes that got robbed :(

Our recently delivered tiles and custom front door are MIA!

We were definitely better off compared to our neighbours who had their entire electrical rough-in stolen!

Unfortunately, this means that we will no longer have access to the house as it will always be locked and all the windows and sliders have been blocked off at the rails.

Brick angles installed

As you all know we had a few brick overhanging issues.

I refused to pay any invoices until they were resolved as I have seen how long these issues can drag out once invoices are paid.

PD have opted to install so brick angles which are basically long L steel brackets that bolt into the slab.

The areas of concern were LHS portico pillar, alfresco pillar, rear right corner of the alfresco and the boundary wall of the garage. I am pretty happy with all the repairs except for the corner of the alfresco bricks.

Not sure if I am happy with the next 3 photos. I will let the independent inspector look over this and advise what he thinks.

Progress update!

Hi all,

Apologies for the lack of updates. I'm currently on a business trip and won't be back for 3 weeks so I haven't been able to visit the site.

Fortunately, my lovely Fiancé sent me some photos this morning and I can't believe how much work has been completed in just one week!

The house was locked up. Apparently they've had a lot of theft in the are the last few weeks which is a real shame!

SS has pretty much attended to all the issues we have raised which includes the kitchen island. It has now been moved to the correct location... woo!

Anyway, some photos to share.

Pillows purchased couch

Just a quick picture to share the pillows we purchased for the couch today. Thought we would add a little bit of colour as most our selections have been grey!

Let us know what you think :)

Kitchen Island position incorrect - As we expected!

I was a little suspicious about the position of the kitchen island so today we went for a look and measure. Turns out I was right. It's not positioned where we wanted it and I know why this happened.

During our contract appointment we noticed that the distance shown between the kitchen island and the WIP wall was noted as 1080 mm on our contract drawings. This did not match our kitchen culture drawings which showed a distance of 1170 mm from WIP which meant that the kitchen island bench top was aligned with the wall bench top.

We raised this issue and we were told that the master file was the kitchen culture drawing and that would be used during installation. Apparently not!

This really isn't the end of the world for us but it is quite annoying. Luckily, I have emails and signed document showing the exact location we wanted the island. Hoping that it's not too late to relocate the island.

Lesson learnt: Don't take anyone's word whilst building. Fingers crossed this gets resolved :)

Living and Dining furniture purchased

I'm flying out overseas tomorrow on a business trip for 3 weeks so we decided to take advantage of the mid year sales and buy the furniture we've been eyeing off for months!

Here are our final selections.

Cabinetry installed

Our cabinets have been installed!

Overall, we are really happy with our colour selections so far. The only colour we are still unsure about is the 'Oyster Grey' for the overhead cupboards. We think it will look much nicer when the walls and bulkhead are paint but for now it looks a little too light or white to us.

Apologies for the bad quality photos, took the photos early in the morning and there was hardly any light. It was damn cold that's for sure....

Bricking complete - Finally!!

It's been just under 4 weeks since bricking started.

They finished yesterday and the house is looking great. The quality of the brick work is superb. It was only one brick layer and a helping hand working on the whole house so even though it took so long we can see the quality and consistency in the work.

We've haven't had the chance to go over the finished brick work with a fine tooth comb but have been monitoring it closely for 4 weeks and we really can't find any mistakes.

Having said that, some outstanding items still remain. Brick overhang, gap over one window and slider. Our SS is already onto it so we're not too concerned.
